The Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis has appointed Clemmie Reynolds as its new artistic director.

Reynolds – currently artistic director of BurntOut Theatre – replaces Tim Bell and Harry Long, who have jointly held the position since 2011.

Reacting to her appointment, Reynolds said: “This is the first time I’ve run a building, having run a theatre company previously – which is quite daunting as a 26-year-old woman. But it will be an incredibly exciting challenge, and it’s a huge step in my career as a theatre director, and I’m really proud to be one of the few young female artistic directors in the country.”

She also paid tribute to Bell and Long, saying they had increased the profile of the coastal Dorset theatre by putting together “a very comprehensive and exciting programme”.
