Five new placements have been announced as part of the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Scheme.

The programme pairs emerging composers with theatres across the UK to work on a variety of projects, including underscoring new plays, setting text to music and creating new works of musical theatre.

The first placement will take place at two theatres – Mercury Theatre in Colchester and New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich – and will run on a part-time basis for 12 months starting in October.

Applications are open for composers who have already had some work professionally produced and are seeking a career in musical theatre.

It is not yet known where the next four placements will take place, though previous partner theatres have included Bristol Old Vic, Soho Theatre and the Watermill in Newbury.
