Althea Efunshile to step down as ACE deputy CEO

Althea Efunshile, deputy CEO of Arts Council England

Arts Council England’s deputy chief executive Althea Efunshile has announced she will step down next year.

Efunshile, who joined ACE in 2007 and took up her current position in 2012, will leave in October next year in order to focus on new projects.

Efunshile said: “I feel I can look back with great affection and satisfaction on my time at the arts council. The organisation is in fine shape and next autumn is a good time for me to depart.”

Since taking up the role of deputy chief executive, Efunshile has been responsible for strategic planning across the whole organisation, as well as overseeing its national investment strategy and leading its work with children and young people.

ACE chief executive Darren Henley praised Efunshile’s work in negotiating with government on the recent spending review, claiming her contribution had been “critical to [ACE] securing a great settlement”.

“We shall miss her enormously but she leaves an organisation with really strong processes and people – many of whom she has recruited,” he added.

Efunshile will continue to lead the planning of ACE’s investment for the years 2018 to 2021, a process that will be completed by the time she departs in October 2016.
