A US arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar – billed as the biggest ever tour of the show in America – has been cancelled just days before its scheduled opening, with star Ben Forster claiming the move has left him “devastated”.
Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, which was co-producing the show, did not give a reason for the cancellation.
On the production’s website, it stated: “The tour was scheduled to kick off in New Orleans on June 9. All purchased tickets will be refunded.”
The show was set to star Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams, Brandon Boyd, from rock band Incubus, and former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon. Forster was to play Jesus in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, a role he originally played in the UK after appearing on the ITV series Superstar.
Writing on Twitter, Forster said:

He also wrote that he had been rehearsing when he heard the news.
The musical was set to visit more than 50 cities. It previously toured the UK twice, first in 2012 and again in 2013. However, the second leg of the tour was postponed, with producers at the time claiming this was “largely due to the enormous demand across the globe with tours in Australia, Europe and USA to be announced soon”.
