Nicole Scherzinger to make West End debut in Lloyd Webber’s Cats
Former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger is to make her West End stage debut as Grizabella in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats.
Cats begins at the London Palladium on December 6, with press night on December 11. It runs until February 28, 2015, with Scherzinger in the show until February 7.
The show brings together the original 1981 creative team of the musical, including Trevor Nunn as director, Gillian Lynne as associate director and choreographer and John Napier as designer.
Scherzinger said: “I am really thrilled to be making my West End debut in such an iconic show. To have the opportunity to work with Andrew, Trevor and Gillian is a dream come true. I grew up listening to Andrew’s extraordinary music and was lucky enough, a couple of years ago, to record Cats’ beautiful song Memory. Andrew’s score is breathtaking and I am truly honoured to have been asked to take part in what I know will be a very special time in my career.”
Cats received its world premiere at the New London Theatre in 1981 where it played for 21 years and almost 9,000 performances.
