Maria Friedman to direct High Society for the Old Vic
Maria Friedman will direct a revival of High Society, as part of the Old Vic’s 2015 season.
The musical adaptation of the 1956 film will be performed in the round, and will have a four-month run at the theatre from April 30 until August 22, with a press night on May 14.
With music and lyrics by Cole Porter, the show also has a book by Arthur Kopit and additional lyrics by Susan Birkenhead. Musical direction will be by Theo Jamieson and sound design will be by Simon Baker.
Friedman said: “To stage High Society in the round at the Old Vic is a hugely exciting project providing the perfect immersive environment for a sparkling musical celebration of wedding day shenanigans. I am really looking forward to transporting audiences into the glamorous heart of this world and hope they enjoy the party.”
The Old Vic will start its season in January with a production of the Daniel Kitson-written play Tree. Kitson will star alongside Tim Key in the production, which will also be performed in the round.
Tree runs at the Old Vic from January 5 to January 31.
