Ex-Southampton footballers to appear in new Nuffield production

by -

Former Southampton Football Club players Matthew Le Tissier and Francis Benali will appear in Nuffield Theatre’s production of The Saints.

The pair are making their acting debuts in the show, and will feature as themselves in cameos, which will be pre-recorded.

Written by Luke Barnes, the play also features Scarlett Alice Johnson, Cary Crankson, Claire-Louise Cordwell, Harry Hepple, Tendayi Jembere, Carl Prekopp, Matthew Raymond and Will Stokes.

The Saints charts the highs and lows of Southampton Football Club and looks at the role of football in the regions.

It will be staged in a pop-up theatre made to resemble a football stadium and forms part of Art at the Heart festival, which Nuffield is curating.

A crowdfunding campaign has also been launched for the production, with members of the public invited to donate amounts of £5 to £500.

It is directed by Matthew Dunster and is a Nuffield production.
