Arts organisations to go head to head in new Sky Arts culture quiz show

The Royal Court is one of the theatres lined up to appear in Sky Arts' new series The Great Culture Quiz.

Theatres including the Royal Court and Nottingham Playhouse will be pitted against each other to test their cultural knowledge as part of a new 15-episode series to be shown on Sky Arts.

The Great Culture Quiz will each week see two teams of arts professionals from different organisations tested on their knowledge of the arts – and their own institutions – in a bid to be crowned champions.

Other companies taking part include the Theatre Royal in Brighton, the National Ballet of Ireland, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Bach Choir.

The West End production of The Mousetrap has also put forward a team.

Over the course of the series, contestants will face each other in heats, quarter-finals, semi-finals and a grand final, where the winners will be crowned.

Sky Arts director Philip Edgar-Jones said the quiz would bring together the “great and good of the British arts world” to see who can “really lay claim to being the most knowledgeable of all”.

The show, to be broadcast in December, is hosted by Anita Rani and produced by Maverick Films.

It was announced today alongside The Christmas Window Live, which will see a different performer –  including singer Pixie Lott – appearing at shopping centre Westfield Stratford every night from December 1 to 13. The performances will also be shown on Sky Arts.

Sky Arts also announced that it has launched Sky Arts Amplify, which is a new initiative that encourages arts organisations and production companies to pitch collaboratively for up to £1 million a year for new TV ideas.
