Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock to open on Broadway next December
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical School of Rock will open on Broadway in December next year.
The show will preview at the Winter Garden Theatre from November 2, 2015, with a press night on December 2.
Based on the film of the same name, the musical will feature songs from the film in addition to new music by Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Julian Fellowes.
Lloyd Webber said: “School of Rock is hugely about how music can empower kids. It will be a joy to discover and work with talented musical kids in the USA and, who knows, maybe discover a rock star or three of the next generation.”
The composer previously told The Stage he was considering opening the musical on Broadway because of the more relaxed child performance rules.
School of Rock will be directed by Laurence Connor, with Nina Lannan as executive producer. Choreography is by JoAnn M Hunter, with scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz, and sound design by Mick Potter.
The show will be co-produced by The Shubert Organization and The Nederlander Organization.
Casting for the show will begin in the USA in January.
