Vanessa Redgrave and Olivia Colman are to star in a BBC2 drama based on the novel The Thirteenth Tale.

The 90-minute drama has been adapted from Diane Setterfield’s book by Christopher Hampton and will be directed by James Kent.

It is being produced by Heyday Films and was commissioned by BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow and BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson.

Stephenson said: “Building on our record-breaking BAFTA success and BBC2’s reputation for world-class drama, The Thirteenth Tale is yet another treat for the audience later this year. Vanessa Redgrave and Olivia Colman, along with the award-winning team behind the drama, illustrate BBC drama at its best – attracting the highest calibre of talent and making the most ambitious content possible.”

Colman last month picked up two prizes at the BAFTA TV Awards – one for best supporting actress for Accused and another for best female in a comedy programme for Twenty Twelve.
