Tom Hiddleston to play Coriolanus at Donmar Warehouse
Tom Hiddleston is to star in the title role of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus as part of the Donmar Warehouse’s autumn season.
Joining Hiddleston in the production, which will be directed by artistic director Josie Rourke, is Mark Gatiss, who will play Menenius.
The show will run from December 6 to February 8, 2014 and will be broadcast by National Theatre Live on January 30.
As part of the new season, Rourke also announced a new play by Nick Payne, called The Same Deep Water as Me, which will feature Nigel Lindsay, Daniel Mays and Monica Dolan.
John Crowley will direct the show - described as being inspired by the culture of minor compensation claims – and it will open the venue’s new season from August 1 to September 21.
Meanwhile, Jessica Raine and Linda Bassett will appear in Arnold Walker’s play Roots, which will be directed by James Macdonald and runs from October 3 to November 30.
Phyllida Lloyd’s all-female staging of Julius Caesar will transfer to New York at St Ann’s Warehouse in October.
As has already been announced, Matt Charman’s new play The Machine, which is being directed by Rourke, will premiere at Manchester International Festival. It will also transfer to New York’s Park Avenue Armory in September.
