Tamara Rojo to dance lead role in ENB’s Swan Lake
English National Ballet’s artistic director Tamara Rojo will perform the lead role in the company’s production of Swan Lake for select dates at the Royal Albert Hall this summer.
Rojo will appear as Odette/Odile opposite Matthew Golding, who is making his debut with the company, in the role of Prince Siegfried.
They will dance together on June 12, 15 and 18.
The in-the-round production will also feature pairings of principal dancers Vadim Muntagirov and Daria Klimentova, Dmitiri Gruzdyev and Fernanada Oliviera, and Erina Takahashi and Zdenek Konvalina in the lead roles on other dates.
Meanwhile, dancer Laurretta Summerscales, who won the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Emerging Dancer competition, will make her debut appearance as Odette/Odile role with Arionel Vargas on June 20.
ENB’s production of Swan Lake, which is choreographed by Derek Deane, runs from June 12 to 23.
Rojo said: “I joined English National Ballet as a young dancer on the opening night of the first Swan Lake in-the-round in 1997. I had never seen anything so beautiful, and as I watched the rows of swans moving in unison, like a Busby Berkeley movie, I felt I was witnessing ballet reaching out to a fresh a new audience. I am proud to continue this work by presenting and dancing in this production that has reached, as well as moved, over 550,000 people worldwide.”
