A second man has died following a backstage accident at Guildford theatre, G Live.

The accident happened on Saturday February 9, during the get-in for the show by Fisherman’s Friends.

Tour manager for the group Paul McMullen died at the scene and the band’s singer Trevor Grills suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised. Grills has now died from his injuries in hospital. It has been reported that the accident occurred when a loading door fell in G Live’s loading bay.

A statement issued by the band following Grills' death said: "Sadly what we feared most has happened, Trevor lost the fight yesterday evening [Monday February 11]. We would like to thank everybody for their good wishes and messages of support. We will miss him greatly and our thoughts go out to Leslie and the boys as well as to Paul McMullen's family at this very difficult time."

G Live is operated by HQ Theatres, the UK’s second largest regional theatre operator. A statement issued by a spokesman for HQ Theatres explained: "We are devastated to hear that Fisherman’s Friends band member Trevor Grills died in St George's Hospital, Tooting, last night as a result of the head injuries suffered on Saturday. The tragic events of Saturday also claimed the life of the band’s promoter. Both men were involved in an accident in the loading bay area of the G Live concert venue prior to their scheduled performance that evening.

"Surrey Police and the Health and Safety Executive investigations are on-going with no further information being available at this time. Guildford Borough Council and HQ Theatres who own and manage the venue respectively continue to fully assist with the investigation. The thoughts and prayers of the G Live staff are with the families and friends of all who have been affected by this tragic accident."

G Live seats 1,031 and opened in 2011. It cost £26 million to build and was the replacement for Guildford’s Civic Theatre. It is owned by Guildford Borough Council and operated by HQ Theatres.
