Russell Grant pulls out of Midnight Tango opening night
Russell Grant will not appear in tonight’s opening performance of Midnight Tango at London’s Phoenix Theatre due to an ankle injury he acquired during rehearsals.
He slipped on black ice before the production began its run and has been unable to perform in any of the preview shows, which started on January 30.
The production, which stars Strictly Come Dancing performers Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, is running until March 2 at the London venue.
Creators of Midnight Tango Simone and Cacace said: “We are so sorry that our dear friend Russell can’t join us on stage to perform on the opening night of Midnight Tango, but we look forward to having him join us in the show as soon as he is able to perform again. We wish him a very speedy recovery.”
One of the show’s producers, Arlene Phillips, added: “We were looking forward to celebrating Russell’s birthday with him tonight. Now, sadly, Russell has been injured and won’t be able to perform, which I know upsets him just as much as us. I wish him a speedy recovery, so that he can be back on stage, where he belongs, as soon as possible.”
