NT Live to screen Helen Mirren in The Audience
The West End production of The Audience starring Helen Mirren will be broadcast live to cinemas through National Theatre Live.
National Theatre Live is the NT's programme to live-stream theatre into cinemas in the UK and abroad. While the majority of productions it screens are those produced in-house at the National's South Bank home, it has also previously screened the Donmar Warehouse's production of King Lear and Complicite's A Disappearing Number.
The Audience will mark the first time it has streamed a commercial theatre production. The Audience is produced by Matthew Byam Shaw for Playful Productions, Robert Fox and Andy Harries.
It is written by Peter Morgan and directed by Stephen Daldry and is running at the Gielgud Theatre. The NT Live broadcast will take place on June 13, with various international dates for broadcasts and repeat screenings through the summer.
The news follows the first ever live broadcast of a West End show, when Great Expectations was broadcast live into cinemas from the Vaudeville Theatre on February 7. The live broadcast of Great Expectations was produced by Omniverse Vision.
