Morecambe and Wise producer John Ammonds dies
One of the most talented light entertainment producers in BBC Television, John Ammonds, has died from the effects of a stroke, his family announced this morning. He was 88.
During the 1960s and 1970s, he worked with Frankie Howerd, Les Dawson, Val Doonican and many stars of the day.
However, he will forever be associated with Morecambe and Wise, producing more than 60 of their shows, including two of their Christmas specials, which regularly attracted audiences of more than 20 million viewers. In 1975, he was appointed an MBE.
