Leicester’s Curve to host premiere of Water Babies musical
A new musical inspired by Charles Kingsley’s book The Water Babies will have its world premiere at Curve in Leicester next year.
The show – called Water Babies – has music by Chris Egan, who has previously orchestrated productions such as The Bodyguard in the West End and Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of The Pajama Game.
It will be directed by Ed Curtis, who has worked on shows such as I Dreamed a Dream. Curtis has also penned Water Babies’ book and lyrics with Guy Jones. The pair previously wrote the book for Never Forget, the Take That musical.
Water Babies will open at Leicester’s Curve on April 24, and will run until May 17. Press night is on May 6.
It is produced by Peter Shaw and Joanna Cecil for Water Babies Musical UK. Shaw was the producer of the film based on Kingsley’s book, which starred James Mason and Billie Whitelaw.
The musical’s executive producer is Tristan Baker, whose credits include The Railway Children and Footloose.
Last year, Curve hosted the world premiere of Finding Neverland, a musical based on the film of the same name, which is currently being re-worked by a team including Gary Barlow.
