Il Divo to release musical theatre-inspired album featuring Michael Ball
Pop group Il Divo are to release a musical theatre-themed album, featuring guest artists including Heather Headley, Michael Ball, Barbra Streisand and Kristin Chenoweth.
The album, called A Musical Affair, is inspired by Broadway shows and will include numbers from shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, The Lion King, Les Miserables and South Pacific.
Ball has teamed up with the group to record Love Changes Everything, from Aspects of Love, while Chenoweth sings on a version of All I Ask of You from Phantom. Streisand sings Music of the Night, also from Phantom, while Headley’s number is Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King.
Il Divo member Urs Buhler said: “We give a different twist to all these songs, just purely from the fact that songs that were written as solo numbers are sung by the four of us. We’ve managed to create a version of these songs that is different, and I hope we’ve done these great songs justice.”
The album will be released on December 2 by Syco Music. The group will also begin a run of live performances at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre from November 7, with Headley appearing as a guest performer.
