Fiona Buffini named associate director at Nottingham Playhouse
Nottingham Playhouse has appointed Fiona Buffini as associate director of the venue.
She begins in this newly created role from September and will be responsible for directing professional and amateur productions and leading the theatre’s participation department.
Buffini will develop the theatre’s new 100-person performance and participation space, the Neville Studio, and manage the theatre’s community membership programme.
She will direct pieces for the studio as well as the main stage and will also create shows with partner theatres abroad.
Her previous work includes the West End production of Dinner at Wyndham’s Theatre and Two Gentlemen of Verona for the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is also a former associate director at the National Theatre.
Buffini said: “The Playhouse has a well-earned reputation for producing work of the highest quality, and as a freelance director, I am very happy to be making my home in a centre of excellence. More importantly, Nottingham Playhouse has a real commitment to the community it serves and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to bring this work firmly into focus.
“I am really pleased to be coming to Nottingham. When I worked at both the RSC and the National Theatre, I kept asking myself, ‘Where’s the community?’ I was very aware that the work that took place in those buildings rarely appealed to the people that lived locally.”
