Damian Kavanagh returns to BBC to oversee daytime programming

Former CBBC head Damian Kavanagh is to replace Liam Keelan as controller of daytime at the BBC.

He has been named as Keelan’s replacement just six months after he left his post as CBBC controller to become head of features and factual formats at Channel 4.

As controller of daytime he will be responsible for programmes across BBC1 and BBC2, and The One Show.

He said: “It was a very difficult decision to leave Channel 4 but BBC Daytime has a unique range of top-quality content, from The One Show to programmes like Father Brown, Pointless and Great Railway Journeys, I really can’t wait to get started.”

Keelan left his post as daytime controller to become global editorial director at BBC Worldwide.

Kavanagh will take up the role later this year.
