BBC2 has commissioned a second series of the drama Peaky Blinders.

The six-part series is being written once again by Steven Knight, who also created the gangster drama.

He said: “I am so pleased we will be able to continue to tell this story of a working class family living through extraordinary times in an extraordinary way.”

The drama is produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions.

Tiger Aspect head of drama Will Gould said: “Shows like this don’t come around very often. Steve’s powerful, unique scripts combined with knock-out performances from Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill, Helen McCrory and the rest of the cast kept the audience gripped.”

The second series was commissioned by BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow and BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson.

Filming will begin early next year.
