BBC commissions Kay Mellor to pen pregnancy drama In the Club
Kay Mellor is to pen a six-part series for the BBC about a group of couples expecting their first child, called In the Club.
Mellor, who penned The Syndicate for the BBC and whose other credits include A Passionate Woman and Fat Friends, said she had been inspired to write the new drama because of her own experience of giving birth as a teenager.
“Birth is the ultimate creation, it changes you and your relationships forever. I’m still close friends with the people I met on my antenatal class. It’s a special time in your life,” she said.
The Club is being made by Kellor’s production company, Rollem Productions and will air next year.
It was commissioned by former BBC1 controller Danny Cohen and controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson.
