Alexander Hanson and Joanna Riding cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Stephen Ward

Alexander Hanson, Charlotte Spencer and Joanna Riding have been cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Stephen Ward.

Hanson – who most recently played Pilate in the UK arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar – will play Ward, while Spencer has been cast as Christine Keeler and Riding will play Valerie Hobson.

The cast also includes Charlotte Blackledge as Mandy Rice Davies, Anthony Calf as Lord Astor, Chris Howell as Murray, Ricardo Coke Thomas as Lucky Gordon, Wayne Robinson as Johnny Edgecomp, Ian Conningham as Ivanov and Daniel Flynn as John Profumo.

The musical, directed by Richard Eyre, has a book and lyrics by Christopher Hampton and Don Black.

It begins previews at the Aldwych Theatre from December 3, with press night on December 19. It is currently booking until March 1, 2014.

The show has set and costumes by Rob Howell, with lighting by Peter Mumford, sound by Paul Groothuis, production design by John Driscoll and choreography by Stephen Mear.

It is produced by Robert Fox Limited and the Really Useful Group.
