The National Theatre has announced dates for its UK and Ireland tour of War Horse, which will begin in autumn 2013.

The show will visit nine venues over ten months and will commence at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on September 27, 2013, where it will run until October 12, 2013.

It will then tour to other UK destinations including Birmingham Hippodrome, the Lowry in Manchester, Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre and the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

The tour will also visit the Sunderland Empire theatre, Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, as well as Ireland’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin.

This is the production’s first UK and Ireland tour since 2007, when it was originally staged at the National Theatre in collaboration with South Africa-based Handspring Puppet Company.

It is currently in its fourth year of running at the West End’s New London Theatre and has produced international tours, including one to North America and Canada.

The original show, based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo and adapted by Nick Stafford, was co-directed by Tom Morris and Marianne Elliot.

It has design by Rae Smith, lighting by Paule Constable and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick.

National Theatre producer Chris Harper said: “We are delighted that our production of War Horse, which is currently running in London, New York, Toronto and is on a US Tour, with future productions in Australia and Berlin, will soon be seen by audiences all over the UK and Dublin.”
