The Royal Opera House has revealed its second worldwide cinema season, which will include three ballet and six opera screenings.

Of the nine broadcasts, seven will be live from Covent Garden and two will be pre-recorded.

Screenings will be hosted in 200 more cinemas than last year, with this season including over 900 sites across 32 countries.

The programme will begin on October 23 with Swan Lake from the Royal Ballet, which will include Zenaida Yanowsky and Nehemiah Kish in the title roles. The Nutcracker and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will also feature and all three will be screened live.

Meanwhile, the Royal Opera broadcasts will include Les Troyens, La Boheme, Nabucco, Donna Del Lago and Eugene Onegin, which will star British baritone Simon Keenlyside. The season will close with Gloriana on June 24, 2013.

Tony Hall, ROH chief executive, said: “One of the key things that distinguishes us in our cinema programme is our mix of opera and ballet.”

He added: “By doing these screenings, I think it is one of the reasons why our average audience is under 45, which is not what you would expect.”

Hall also revealed that the ROH is looking to feature 3D screenings in future ROH cinema programmes.

The Royal Opera House cinema season 2012/13 is supported by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
