Phil Clarke named Channel 4 comedy boss
Phil Clarke, who has executive produced series such as Fresh Meat, has been named head of comedy at Channel 4.
Currently head of comedy and entertainment at Objective Productions, Clarke replaces Shane Allen, who has left to join the BBC as controller of comedy commissioning.
At Channel 4 he will be responsible for overseeing the broadcaster’s comedy line-up, including Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror.
Channel 4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: “Phil has been behind some of the biggest comedy hits on British TV. He is brilliantly creative and will be a strong, thoughtful leader for the Channel 4 comedy team.”
At Objective Productions, Clarke has produced all of the company’s comedies, including Peep Show and Fresh Meat.
Nerys Evans, who is currently acting head of Channel 4’s comedy department, will become its deputy head when Clarke joins next year.
