O2 arena to host first panto in purpose-built theatre

London's O2 arena is to host its first ever pantomime this Christmas, with Lily Savage appearing as Widow Twankey in a production of Aladdin.

The production will be staged in a purpose-built 1,900-seat proscenium arch theatre under the canopy of The O2. It will run from December 7, 2012 to January 5, 2013 and will be produced by Michael Rose Ltd. The show will be based on Rose's 2010 version of Aladdin that was staged at the Mayflower in Southampton.

Rose commented:"To have this opportunity to bring a Christmas production of this scale to London is a dream come true. Creating a purpose-built theatre means we can focus on audience needs and ensure they have a fabulous time watching one of the great performers of our time in what is sure to be one of the most unique events of 2012."

Tickets will be priced from £19.50 to £49.50.
