Fiona Shaw and dancer Daniel Hay-Gordon will perform poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner at the Old Vic Tunnels next year.

The production is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, whose previous work includes the film and West End version of Mamma Mia!, and is choreographed by Kim Brandstrup.

It will run for 18 performances from January 4 to 13, 2013, with press night on January 8, 2013.

The piece first appeared at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival earlier this year.

Design is by Chloe Obolensky, lighting by Jean Kalman and sound by Mel Mercier. The Young Vic theatre will produce the show.

Lloyd said: “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the theatre of our childhood – of rhymes and sticks and a rope – a world where small things carry vast meaning. Two performers make this story hang in the air for just a moment, to live on only in the memory of the audience.”
