Charlotte Gwinner named Everyman and Playhouse associate director
Director Charlotte Gwinner has been appointed associate director at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse after receiving the Quercus Award for Theatre Directors 2013.
She will take up her position next spring to work with the Liverpool venues as well as the National Theatre during the one-year scheme.
The Quercus Award for Theatre Directors is a biennial initiative set up by the National Theatre Studio and director Marianne Elliott. It is designed to help directors make the transition from fringe venues to main stages in the UK.
During her time with the Liverpool theatres, Gwinner will direct a main-stage production in either the Everyman or Playhouse and will work with senior members of the National Theatre and Everyman and Playhouse’s artistic team.
Gwinner was previously associate director at the Bush Theatre from 2009 to 2011 and is the founder and artistic director of Angle Theatre.
Gemma Bodinetz, artistic director of the Everyman and Playhouse, said: “I am delighted that Charlotte Gwinner is the recipient of the Quercus associate director award. After a lengthy selection process from a very high calibre of directors she was felt to be the outstanding candidate.
“The panel were also particularly impressed by her passion for regional theatre and the in-depth knowledge she had accumulated to understand the particular communities and audiences of Liverpool.”
