Donmar Warehouse triumphs at Theatregoers’ Choice Awards
The Donmar Warehouse continued its domination of theatre award ceremonies by picking up five gongs at this year’s Theatregoers’ Choice Awards.
Kenneth Branagh was named Best Actor in a Play for his appearance in Ivanov, part of the Donmar’s West End season at the Wyndham’s Theatre, while Tom Hiddleston received the prize for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for the same production, as well as his part in the company’s production of Othello.
Ivanov was also voted the Best Play Revival and Othello was named Best Shakespearean Production. Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage, who directed both shows as well as a revival of the Chalk Garden, won the gong for Best Director.
West End show Jersey Boys was named Best New Musical, and cast members Ryan Molloy and Stephen Ashfield picked up prizes for Best Actor in a Musical and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.
David Tennant’s return to the stage in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Hamlet was named the Theatre Event of the Year.
