Andrew to be CBBC’s head of drama and acquisitions
Former Grange Hill producer and ex-controller of CiTV Steven Andrew has been named head of drama and acquisitions at CBBC.
Currently working freelance, Andrew will take up his post in January 2009.
He will replace Jon East, who is executive producing and directing the new CBBC drama Bo and the Spirit World, and will oversee the development and production of all in-house CBBC drama.
BBC children’s controller Richard Deverell said: “This is a fantastic appointment for BBC children’s. To attract someone with Steven’s track record to head CBBC drama and acquisitions is a testament to the department’s reputation.”
Before going freelance, Andrew was at ITV, where he was programme director of ITV’s digital channels. Prior to that, he was ITV controller of off-peak and controller of CiTV, where he developed and produced more than 200 hours of original children’s programming.
Before joining ITV, he spent 24 years at the BBC, where his production credits included Blue Peter, Going Live, Jackanory and Grange Hill.
