Rippon to tour in Anything Goes
Veteran broadcaster Angela Rippon is to star in a national tour of Cole Porter’s musical Anything Goes from January.
Rippon will play Evangeline Harcourt during the 50-week tour of the production from the creative team behind West End show High Society.
Producer Mark Goucher told The Stage: “Angela hasn’t really been onstage before but we met with her and she was extremely excited about the part.
“I really didn’t want to go for the usual suspects but to try and find someone interesting for the role. Angela did actually train as a dancer and everyone will remember her performance on the Morecambe and Wise show when she walked on in a leotard and did that fantastic dance routine.”
Rippon’s television credits include Come Dancing, The Antiques Roadshow, Top Gear, Angela Rippon Meets… and two appearances dancing at the Royal Variety Performance. She presented the Live With Angela Rippon show for the ITV News Channel until September this year.
She will be joined in Anything Goes, a co-production with Manchester’s Lowry Theatre, by Michael Starke, best known for playing Sinbad in TV’s Brookside.
