CCE relaunches youth theatre scheme
Clear Channel Entertainment's summer scheme, which encourages young people to get involved in theatre, has been relaunched for 2005.
Formerly known as the Summer Youth Project, the Clear Channel Stage Experience now involves more than half of CCE's regional venues. As the only not-for-profit initiative of its kind run by a commercial company, it seeks to give children from all backgrounds an opportunity to perform or to be part of the production team in a professionally produced musical.
Michelle Tiley, divisional manager for CCE, said: "Having previously launched the Summer Youth Project scheme in several of our regional theatres, we've been delighted with its success so far and the passion with which our staff and the young people involved have taken ownership of the various productions which have been staged. It was felt that the new name summed up the scheme now that it has grown in stature and recognition."
The titles of the ten Stage Experience productions for 2005 include Annie, Barnum, Me and My Girl, Oliver, Summer Holiday and Guys and Dolls, which CCE is currently co-producing in the West End starring Ewan McGregor and Jane Krakowski. Professional producers and choreographers will take part in the productions and it is hoped that the expert tuition available will inspire the future generation of technicians, actors, producers and theatregoers.
