Children’s author David Wood was joined by Rudi Dharmalingham, Stephanie Sewell and Debra Penny at the new Unicorn Theatre in Southwark to celebrate Sewell’s success in the Blue Peter national Storytelling Competition.
As winner of the playwriting category, Sewell was given the chance to complete a play that had been begun by Wood. The work will now be illustrated by Quentin Blake and published along with that of the winners in six other categories.
As part of her prize, Sewell was also accompanied by Wood on a visit to the Unicorn to see its production of Tom’s Midnight Garden, which stars Dharmalingham and Penny. The competition, which attracted 33,000 entries, was a joint initiative between Arts Council England and Blue Peter.
