Competition: Win tickets to Jack and the Beanstalk at Oxford Playhouse

Ascending the stage and scaling new heights is Oxford Playhouse’s spectacular festive production Jack and the Beanstalk from Friday 24 November to Sunday 7 January. Written and directed for the third year running by Steve Marmion, Jack and the Beanstalk once again brings a contemporary edge to the traditional panto, with all the archetypal bells and whistles that a pantomime promises.  It’s just not Christmas without the Oxford Playhouse pantomime!

Based on the English folk tale about the plucky but naive Jack and his handful of beans, this new production features Ricky Oakley as Jack, with a recent appearance in the new musical Roller Diner (Soho Theatre) under his belt. Paul Barnhill, first seen at Oxford Playhouse as the treacherous and conniving Abanazer in Aladdin (Christmas 2015), returns to Oxford to play Jack’s mother, Dame Trott. A multi-talented cast bring to life Jack’s best friend Jill, the Giant and his evil henchmen Dai Slowly and Judi Hench, the Goose, the Fairy, Jagger the Cow and his clever sister Smart Simone. Jack and the Beanstalk also stars a young company of 20 local children, aged 11-15, full of beans ready to climb onto the Playhouse stage.

After getting into humungous trouble with his mother for selling their hapless cow for a handful of beans, Jack’s dreams begin to come true when they start to grow… and grow… and GROW.  Who knows what surprises he will face but there is only one thing that’s for sure – it’ll be the best panto in the land.

With original music, current tunes and some golden oldies, there is merriment for both adults and children alike. With more jokes cracked than seasonal nuts, Oxford Playhouse invites you to this whopping show, brimming with enormous excitement!  Be ready to boo the baddies, applaud the goodies and join our hero Jack on his journey as he ascends the beanstalk on his quest to conquer the giant. There’s no doubt that this will be an udderly brilliant production with hilarious jokes, lots of sparkle and bucket loads of music and dancing – fabulous festive fun is to be had by all.
