Jason Donovan rose to fame for his role in Australian soap Neighbours.
It appears the singer and actor has carried the message from the show’s theme tune with him ever since.
Donovan proved that neighbours truly do become good friends when he rushed out of his home in Notting Hill in the middle of the night to help put out a fire at the house of the family living opposite.
Wearing nothing but a pair of underpants and armed with two fire extinguishers, the star didn’t hesitate to leap to the rescue.
He told the Times: “There are no heroes apart from the emergency services and the fact that everybody was safe.”
The owner of the house, who did not wish to be named, said: “This is the perfect example of when good neighbours become good friends. It was awesome.”
His partner added: “I was standing outside with my kids and Jason Donovan came running like a superhero. He came barefoot, just running across the street. Then he came and he hosed down the fire.
“He called the fire department for us. He gave me a hug and made sure I was okay and left. I think he is heroic.”
Even the London fire service was impressed, tweeting that “everyone needs good neighbours” like Donovan.
