The Albany

The Albany is an arts centre and registered charity in Deptford, South East London. We offer a range of versatile rehearsal spaces for commercial theatre productions, R&D periods, devising, and pre-production work. Our spaces are available to hire by the hour, day, or week, with multi-week bookings available for extended rehearsal periods.

We’re 5 minutes from London Bridge by train, with an on-site café, garden, and a building full of working artists and creative organisations. 

Our Spaces

Rehearsal Room: light and airy space with sprung floor, portable mirrors, and high ceilings. 5.1 x 16.1m (82sqm) / up to 25 movement capacity, 60 seated capacity.

Red Room: flexible space with natural daylight, semi-blackout blinds, acoustic curtains, and opening directly onto the Albany Garden. 3-sided space (86sqm) / up to 25 movement capacity, 50 seated capacity.

Albany Studio: blackout space, high ceilings and acoustic curtains, with technical facilities available on request. 5-sided space (70sqm), up to 20 movement capacity, 50 seated capacity.

Main Hall: high ceilings, sprung floor, PA system included, ideal for large cast rehearsals. 17.5m x 12.2m (213sqm), up to 40 movement capacity, 112 seated.

Deptford Lounge Studio: sprung floor, mirrored wall, natural light. 11m x 10m (110sqm) / up to 30 movement capacity, 75 seated.

Practical Details 

Available to book by the hour, day, or week. Multi-week bookings available for extended rehearsal periods.

Accessible venue: we were the first arts centre to achieve Gold in the Attitude is Everything Charter of Best Practice, and would be happy to share more information about our accessibility initiatives.

Our on-site café at the Albany serves homemade vegetarian and vegan food, with garden seating for breaks.

Alongside our rehearsal spaces, we also have a recording studio, music practice room, meeting rooms and workshop spaces. We have a coworking hub and offer private offices at affordable rates for arts organisations.

5 minutes from London Bridge and direct train from Cannon Street. 250m from Deptford station – around a two-minute walk (Rail, Thameslink). Close to New Cross (Overground, Rail) and Deptford Bridge (DLR). Bus routes: 171, 172, 177, 47, 53, 453.
