Jane Smith started making hats for Film and Theatre in 1968, and works in felt, straw, buckram, plastic, and fabrics. She also makes up particular hats for Commercials, naval bicorns and tricorns
for Re-enactors and cocked hats for Mayors and Civic Dignitaries of all kinds.
She regularly teaches a Period Hat Making class at Morley College, takes Degrees in Costume students for historical hat making at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Central School of Speech and Drama.
She takes Summer Schools in Historic hat making in France (Chateau Dumas), Denmark (Royal Opera House, Copenhagen) and Los Angeles (Fullerton College, Orange County)
