The Stage/ Rose Bruford College scholarship winner 2018

Last year's The Stage and Rose Bruford scholarship winner Yadel Gebeyehu

The winner of The Stage Scholarship [1] at Rose Bruford College 2018 is Yadel Gebeyehu. The 19-year-old, who is originally from Ethiopia, lives in Leicester.

“I am really delighted to have been chosen to be a part of Rose Bruford College and that I been offered a scholarship,” said Yadel.

“There are no words to describe how am feeling right now. I feel like this is a place where I should be. I can’t wait to start in September.”

Yadel has won a place on the acting foundation course at Rose Bruford College worth £8,250. Its intensive, full-time, 20-week course in acting delivers a rigorous and in-depth foundation training. From 375 applications online, there have already been 130 auditions for the foundation acting course this year, with more auditions to take place throughout the year.

On the day of the scholarship audition, 21 hopeful students took part, but Yadel’s talent and enthusiasm won through.

Foundation course director Pat O’Toole is thrilled to offer the award to Yadel.

“We are delighted to award Yadel the Stage Scholarship this year.” said O’Toole. “This award is about opportunity and encouraging potential. We believed Yadel demonstrated a real passion and commitment to pursue acting as a craft as well as sharing the values of the course. He was a clear winner and we are thrilled that he will be joining us this September.”

Yadel first came to live in the UK aged eight, not knowing a word of English. One thing he did know was that he was determined to work in the acting industry.

“I am in love with acting. I am studying for my BTecs at Gateway College in Leicester. I want to study on the acting foundation course and progress to the BA acting course at Rose Bruford. I did a lot of research and fell in love with the place when I came to audition. The teachers were really nice and all the students and graduate ambassadors had good things to say about the college. I really enjoyed the workshops at the audition.”

Rose Bruford has four foundation courses established in 2014 responding to a growing need to bridge the gap between college and further training at university or drama school. The foundation courses are based in Edinburgh, Bromsgrove, Folkestone and Sidcup. The Stage Scholarship 2018 was offered at the Sidcup venue.
