1. Capitalise on your USPs
Actors are constantly being told that they must know their USPs and stereotypes. Consider how you showcase these on your website as just as important. There’s no point in putting up pictures of you as every type and everything. You want a potential director and producer to know exactly what type of actor you are at first glance. Pick the three main types you get cast mostly in, and ensure they’re represented at least twice within your images and credits and also within your showreel. While on that topic, make sure to include only professional images that stand out. Selfies are not okay.
2. Industry links are essential
You won’t believe the amount of times I’ve looked at actor’s websites and they haven’t got their Spotlight link, their IMDb or their agent’s details. If you aren’t yet on IMDb, by all means skip adding this link (same with representation). But it’s very important to put relevant information on your site, as well as social media links for Twitter and Instagram etc, so your fans can follow you, and so a director or producer has a way to contact you. It might surprise you, but casting directors are the least likely to be looking at your site. If you don’t fancy sharing your own email, then simply include your agent’s. But be sure to make sure your personal details are not on whois.com (safety first).
3. Celebrate your successes
Publicly relishing your successes, PR moments, award wins and film/theatre launches is an important and honest way to get people interested in you and your skills. Your fans will want to know. Adding these press articles and awards that you (or a film/theatre show you’re in) have received demonstrates that you are hot property.
