Cinderella

Published Thursday 8 December 2011 at 10:47 by Pru Farrier

Another spectacular pantomime next year with tickets at 2011 prices is the cheering message sending audiences on their way at the end of this show.

The Baron may be Hardup, like Darlington Borough Council, but Jimmy Cricket’s farewell words at the footlights follow its just announced proposal to fund the Civic throughout 2012/13, ending months of uncertainty.

In the meantime, Qdos Entertainment has again achieved a high-powered, beautifully-costumed show with sumptuous sets, clever lighting and a company of performers adept at big showbiz-style numbers.

Former X Factor runner-up and Dancing on Ice star Ray Quinn has a strong singing voice and the good looks for Prince Charming, and uses his scouser accent to win laughs.

The Irish brogue of soft-spoken veteran Jimmy Cricket and the saucy punning of ventriloquist Dawson Chance with his turtle puppet ensure lots more laughter.

Adam C Booth works the audience brilliantly with quick-thinking humour and packs a powerful punch in the song routines.

Brian Godfrey and Darren Southworth are ferocious Ugly Sisters, but scene-stealers in increasingly comical and outlandish costumes.

Deena Payne is purposefully in charge as Fairy Godmother. A bouncy and sweetly innocent Emma Stephens - as Cinderella - seems never in doubt about her happy ending.
