Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt

Published Thursday 3 November 2011 at 13:27 by Katie Colombus

Following on from the rip-snorting success of Peppa Pig’s Party last year, director Richard Lewis brings another crowd pleasing children’s show to the stage with Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt.

A spartan revolving set takes its young audience on an adventure trail to find buried pirate’s treasure. With the help of Pedro Pony, Danny Dog and Zoe Zebra, Peppa and little brother George venture through the mountains, woods, up in a hot air balloon, on to Grandad Dog’s boat and Mrs Rabbit’s train and all the way back home again.

Hannah Lucas’ cutesy voice is perfect as the nasal little Peppa, and Kimberley Pena deserves special mention for her energy and ability to transform between Miss Rabbit and Zoe Zebra, amongst other characters.

The show manages to keep even the youngest children enthralled from beginning to end without the plot feeling drawn out. It is simple without being lazy and as charming as the much-loved cartoon. A sophisticated sense of humour sits alongside skilled puppetry and easy to follow dialogue and storylines. With adapted nursery rhymes and recognisable cartoon hits such as the Bing Bong Boo Song in the more upbeat moments, interspersed with dance steps and a memorable underwater day-glo seaside scene, children are taken on a journey that delights all, not just die-hard Peppa fans.
