With Christmas just around the corner, what better time to see a show about getting back at your irritating relatives?
Roald Dahl’s tale about a granny getting everything she deserves, and a lot more, has been adapted into a Pantomine-esque kiddie’s drama by David Wood.
Clark Devlin’s tirelessly energetic George really hits his stride - for viewers aged about four to about seven at least - when mixing a medicine to stop his gran (Erika Poole) from being so annoying.
The rest of the audience don’t have a lot to look forward to until curtains down. Apart from seeing how into the performance their children are getting.
This isn’t a family show, it’s a perfectly pitched show for young’uns. The repetition (particularly of the theme tune) quickly grates, but kids will be repeating them all the way home.
The design is bright and cheery, the sound-effects are fantastic, and the acting as enthusiastic as you would expect from children’s entertainers.
However the highlight is that this is a show that introduces the magic of theatre, in a particularly in-your-face way, to young audiences who won’t be disappointed when you drag them back for more.
Not like visits to your relatives at all.
Production information can change over the run of the show.
