Prolific penner of pantos, Eric Potts can always be relied on to come up with originality within the traditional format. He knows a thing or two about panto dames, having worked as one for many years, and this script certainly showcases the talents of Oldham’s regular dame, the wonderful Fine Time Fontayne. This year, he’s Nurse Nora with a quip and a bandage ever to hand.

Richard J Fletcher is his usual cherubically chunky self as Larry Occlesthorpe, who is at the epicentre of everything hysterically funny. Slapstick is his forte and, in one classic scene, he covers the entire world in whipped cream, abetted by Patrick Bridgman’s bumbling King Cuthbert.
Amy Rhiannon Worth doubles splendidly as Careless Carrie and Prince Lorenzo, not only causing the original problem for Nicole Evans’ Princess Rose but, with a kiss, making things right in the end. Sue Devaney, sounding uncannily like a demented Anne Robinson, is histrionically loathsome as Carabosse - yin to the yang of Heledd Baskerville’s wand-waving Fairy Rainbow.
That the Coliseum will provide good clean fun, delightful spectacle and consistently high standards is both a tribute to director Kevin Shaw and choreographer Beverley Edmunds and a constant in a changing world.
