Aladdin

Published Monday 14 December 2009 at 14:15 by Jim Kennedy

Take a principal boy with the longest legs in the business, an emperor with the voice of Pavarotti, a genie who raps and sings like Stevie Wonder and a wicked baddie who splits the heroine into four sections with his magic cabinet and you have a pantomime rich in special effects and innovative ideas.

Lisa Mathieson as Aladdin proves the perfect choice in the title role, the Emperor (Paul Bentley) is a fine actor with a glorious voice, Nathaniel Morrison plays the part of the Genie of the Lamp to perfection with his many vocal roles and Abanazer, played by Miles Western, is a true baddie with evil snarls and maniacal laughter.

Patrick Clancy as Widow Twankey is fun personified, with zany antics and a range of outlandish costumes whilst Robin Armstrong’s Wishee Washee assists with his own brand of comedy. Princess So Shi, Carly Day, is both elegant and beautiful as is Flik Swan, The Genie of the Ring.

The ensemble work hard with some excellent routines, ably assisted by pupils of the local Highstone Dance Academy.

A wonderful Christmas time treat for all the family.
