If you go expecting cute cuddly ducklings and a show for under 5’s, then you could just come unstuck with Honk! The Ugly Duckling Musical.

The first act of this production was, to say the least, good in parts. The second act seemed like a different show being lively, humourous, and strong musically. However, this was definitely a show for older children and adults.
Once it has time to nestle down, this looks to become another huge success for the Royal & Derngate.
Adam Barlow not only works hard and has a strong voice but proves a very likeable Ugly, the duckling who becomes a swan.
Fiona Dunn is a heart rendering Ida the duckling’s Mother, and Andrew Dennis a long-suffering father in Drake.
Marilyn Cutts and Joanna Redman pull off a show-stopper of a scene as Lowbutt and Queenie, as does Mark McDonnell as Bullfrog and Adam Barlow as Ugly along with the Froglets.
David McGranaghan makes the stage his own prowling around as the Cat, in contrast Jennifer Rhodes was the beautiful swan Penny.
A superly designed show by Jason Denvir, with scenery and costumes by the Royal & Derngate workshops puts the icing on the cake for this really promising seasonal offering.
Production information can change over the run of the show.
