The Marlowe has certainly secured its most experienced cast for this panto.
As the last Christmas show at the venue before its two-year refurbishment, Paul Hendy and wife Emily have a production which has come of age with a strong, confident cast.
EastEnders’ Emma Barton is given every opportunity to show off her impressive vocal range and her prince, Richard Hurst, clearly gets the conventions of pantomime as a very funny, yet convincing, Charming.
It’s always nice to see some familiar faces as well as newcomers and Stephen Mulhern shows off his brilliant rapport with the audience and natural gift for performing. Comedian Dave Lee is back, this time as Nurse Nellie and the infamous ‘bench gag’ gets its own applause.
Ben Roddy is a lovable and very funny Herman the Henchman and Valerie Cutko shows off her powerful voice and mannerisms as a vampish Queen Ivannah - credit to Helga Wood for the beautiful costumes.
The dwarfs, headed by Phil Holden as Sarge, give their all as newly-named Cheeky (Ray Griffiths), Groovy (Michael Caballero), Sniffly (Darren Hoard), Nutty (Nick Reed), Loopy (Keijo Salmela) and Brian (Brian Wheeler), and together they make a convincing team with Barton’s Snow White.
This Marlowe show is a mature production with genuinely funny gags, strong performances and all together plenty of fun.
Production information can change over the run of the show.
