Cinderella

Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien, making her professional stage debut in the title role of Cinderella, looks as if she’s having a ball, totally engaging with the audience and holding her own in the musical numbers.

Ex- Street favourite, Johnny Briggs, as her dad, Baron Hardup, has fun with a few soap jokes, while Bernie Nolan, looking terrific as the Fairy Godmother, showed how to hit the high notes and command the stage

Panto veterans, Roger Kitter and Steve Luck, as Paris and Britney, got laughs as the Ugly Sisters, but stealing the comedy honours is young comedian, Steve Walls, who is a totally appealing Buttons.

Eric Potts has written a very funny script. There’s lavish sets and costumes with a magical transformation scene complete with coach and two white ponies. However, I’m still puzzling why, in the middle of it, the cast sang a Hebrew prayer.

It was great to hear a live orchestra, but a pity that the chorus sounded recorded and the cast need to make faster exits and entrances. However, the enthusiastic family audience of mainly soap fans, loved it and it’s well worth the price of a ticket.
