Of Mice and Men, starring James Franco and Chris O’Dowd, is to become the first Broadway production to be broadcast as part of National Theatre Live.

Also starring Leighton Meester and Jim Norton, the John Steinbeck play will be filmed at the Longacre Theatre in New York. Dates for the screenings have yet to be announced.

NT director of broadcast and digital David Sabel said he was “thrilled” the play was to become part of NT Live.

“These broadcasts have enabled millions more people around the world to see great theatre from the UK and now the US,” he said.

Producer David Binder said he was “humbled” that Of Mice and Men would be the first Broadway show featured as part of NT Live.

“I can’t think of a greater honour that could be bestowed on this production of Steinbeck’s masterwork than to have an opportunity for millions of theatre lovers around the world to see our production under the auspices of National Theatre Live,” he said.

Of Mice and Men is directed by Anna D Shapiro.

It opened on April 16 and runs until July 27.
