Scarlett Strallen, Ben Lewis, Fra Fee and David Thaxton have been cast in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s forthcoming production of Candide.
Bernstein’s musical, which is adapted from Voltaire’s book by Hugh Wheeler, will open at the venue on November 22, with press night on December 2.
Strallen, who was most recently seen in A Chorus Line, will appear as Cunegonde, with Fee playing Candide. His theatre credits include A Man of No Importance at the Salisbury Playhouse and Les Miserables, both on stage and screen.
Thaxton, who won an Olivier for his performance in Passion at the Donmar Warehouse, takes the role of Maximilian, while Lewis – who played the Phantom in the Australian production of Love Never Dies – will be the governor and Vanderdendur.
Meanwhile, Cassidy Janson, whose credits include Lend Me a Tenor and Avenue Q, will play Paquette.
The cast also features Carly Anderson, Frankie Jenna and Matt Wilman.
Candide is directed by Matthew White and choreographed by Adam Cooper. It has lyrics by Richard Wilbur and additional lyrics by a team including Stephen Sondheim.
